Decluttering Can Increase Creativity

With a New Year comes new goals. No matter if it’s our personal life or professional life, we tend to go into the New Year ready to achieve all our hearts desire or reset some of the plans that we didn’t get to complete the year before. But we tend to forget sometimes to move forward we have to leave behind habits, ways and material things to truly leave space for creativity. So what better way than to start the New Year off with decluttering not only our minds but our space.

Material Clutter is mentally unhealthy

Material Clutter has been link to issues with attentiveness, emotional welfare, and mental robustness. Sometimes clutter can be a boldly sign of an unhealthy mental state. And how can we truly and freely creative with a mind and personal space full of, well, clutter.

Solution: Let it all go

We really do accumulate stuff (junk that we don’t need). And I’m starting to look at this junk the same way I look at old relationships, toxic people, and bad habits, just LET IT ALL GO. We train ourselves to let go or people and situations that don’t serve us any good. People that don’t add value to our lives.

The same way we let go of people and situations that are no longer good for us is the same way we should let go of material stuff (junk) that serves no real purpose in our lives. Just walk around your house and your office and see how many things you have that is just either collecting dust or has no real purpose in your life. Hunny, LET IT GO. Keep those items that only serve real purpose.

Organization can help save time and boost creativity
The less options I have the less I stress. The more organized your closet, your desk, or even your fridge the more time you save. No more taking an hour to get dress to get to the office or looking for that invoice in a pile on your desk. Organizing your closet and desk leaves more time and energy for the important stuff.

Solution: Simply Organize

First start be getting rid of clothes you don’t wear and color coordinate your closet. That’ll help with decluttering material junk and save some time. Let’s be honest. We all have a few articles of clothing that we wear often and truly that is all we need. The less we have the more time we’ll spend trying to figure out what to wear. And it can push your CREATIVITY with your clothing. See how many ways you can wear that black shirt or white blouse. And as for my desk and work spaces, I keep everything…….Digital. No papers hunny. But if you have a paper trail organize it using bins and labels. Have a set place for everything. And if your really fancy alphabetize it.

You have great ideas in too many places

I know some people who have a tablet and planner for each project, event, or activity. And don't worry. Im not judging because I too use to be one of those people. I had a ton of tablets with ideas, projects, goals, class notes, etc. But when it was time to fine what I was looking for it took forever to go through tons of tablets and notes trying to find information.

Solution: One Stop Shop

Have one planner or tablet(I choose planner) where you can put everything in one place. Use tabs to create sections for each task, event, project, etc that are important to you. I also use the app Evernote. It is great for just about anything from note taking to adding documents you may get through the day, its a central place to have all of your information. I have Evernote on my phone, iPad, and computer that way I’m also able to add to a document , review notes from a meeting or start note taking for a new project. Having one central planner and Evernote I’m able to organize my thoughts and projects.
